Strong Hitting Not Enough as North Delta Pirates’ Errors Contribute to Close Loss Against Vancouver Mounties

Even though the North Delta Pirates out-hit the Vancouver Mounties seven-to-four, their efforts were undone as they amassed five errors in the field and ultimately fell four-to-two to Vancouver on Sunday.

  • The North Delta Pirates got on the board in the first inning after Sammy Wong grounded out, scoring one run.

  • An error gave Vancouver the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first.

  • The two teams then traded four scoreless innings, buoyed by the pitching of Brendan Grant for North Delta and Mattias Alteza-Penkala for Vancouver.

  • In the top of the sixth, Tyler Bernabe scored after tagging up, and the game was tied 2 - 2 going into the bottom of the sixth.

  • A Naoki Tomilson single for Vancouver and a North Delta Pirates error, resulted in two additional runs scoring and Vancouver led 4-2 - a lead they would hold on to through the seventh.

  • Alteza-Penkala earned the win for Vancouver. They gave up seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking two.

  • B. Grant took the loss for the North Delta Pirates. They went the distance, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out seven and walking four.

  • Wong and Ryo Ikeda each drove in one run for the North Delta Pirates.

  • Bernabe and Payton Harper each collected two hits for North Delta.

  • The North Delta Pirates turned one double play in the game.

  • Tomilson went 2-for-3 at the plate as the third baseman led the team with one run batted in.

  • Jonah Richardson and Tomilson each collected two hits for Vancouver

  • Vancouver turned one double play in the game.

  • Vancouver didn’t commit a single error in the game, while North Delta committed five.

  • Next up for the North Delta Pirates is the second game of a double header against host Vancouver at Hilcrest Park.
