Clutch Hitting and Patient Batting Propels North Delta Pirates to Victory Over North Island Cubs

Ryo Ikeda drove in four runs on three hits to lead the North Delta Pirates past the North Island Cubs on Saturday. Ikeda singled in the second inning, scoring two runs, hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, scoring one run, and singled in the sixth inning, scoring one run. The team also tallied fourteen walks in the game.

  • The North Island Cubs were the first to get on the board in the first inning when Eric Schulz homered to center field, scoring three runs.

  • The North Delta Pirates flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 5-3 lead.

  • The North Delta Pirates then scored another five funs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Tyler Bernabe grounded out, scoring one run, Brendan Grant scored after tagging up, Lucas Stebbings drew a walk, scoring one run, Carson Stoochnoff was struck by a pitch, resulting in one run, and Rika Sakuta drew a walk, scoring one run.

  • The North Delta Pirates added runs in the fifth inning, sixth inning, and seventh inning and the game ended, 15-5.

  • Ikeda stepped on the bump first for the North Delta Pirates. The righty pitched a full game to get the win. He allowed eight hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking two

  • Jacob Gilleland began the game for the North Island Cubs. The allowed three hits and five runs over two innings., striking out four and walking four.

  • B. Grant and Jared Goumans each collected multiple hits for the North Delta Pirates.

  • Tyler Conway paced North Delta with three walks and the team had fourteen in the game.

  • Shultz drove the middle of the lineup for the Cubs, leading the squad with three RBIs. He was 1-for-2 on the day.

  • Chase Robbins and Luc Gavel each collected two hits for North Island.

  • North Island also turned one double play in the game.

  • The North Delta Pirates will meed the North Island Cubs in the second game of a double header in Campbell River this afternoon.
