In a Battle of the North, the Pirates are Victorious Over the Cubs

The North Delta Pirates were victorious over the North Island Cubs 4-1 in the second game of a double header Saturday afternoon.

Please see a recap of the game below:

  • The North Delta Pirates were the first to get on the board in the third inning when Kyle Sallinen singled, scoring one run.

  • Riku Sakuta hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the fifth to extend North Delta’s lead to 2-0.

  • The North Island Cubs cut the lead in half to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth when N. Parchomchuk singled and a North Delta error, scored one run.

  • The North Delta Pirates added two more runs lead 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Tyler Conway singled, scoring one run and Tyler Bernabe singled and Brendan Grant came in to score.

  • The Cubs showed some life in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on first and second and no out but a fly out, infield fly, and fielder’s choice resulted in three straight outs and the game ended 4-1.

  • B. Grant pitched a complete game victory for the North Delta Pirates. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking five. He also picked of two runners attempting to steal from first to second.

  • Nate Parchomchuk stepped on the hill first for the North Island Cubs. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two.

  • Bernabe led the North Delta Pirates with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position.

  • The North Delta Pirates turned one double play in the game.

  • Ethan Crowhurst, Parchomchuk, Linden Robertson, Kanoah Sequeira, and Blayne McDonald each collected a hit for the Cubs.

  • North Island turned on double play in the game.

Next up for the North Delta Pirates is a double header against the Cowichan Valley Mustangs on Sunday.
