North Delta Pirates Strike Gold, Defeat Cloverdale Rangers College Prep to Win Sussex All-Star Tournament

Canada Day celebrations weren’t the only fireworks in store Monday. In a whole-team effort, the North Delta Pirates were triumphant over the Cloverdale Rangers College Prep 5–3 to win the Sussex All-Star tournament in Kamloops.

  • The North Delta Pirates took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Cloverdale committed an error, Tyler Conway singled, and Payton Harper singled, each scoring one run.

  • Cloverdale tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third thanks to a sacrifice fly by Garrett Baxter, and a single by Cody Martel.

  • A line drive single by Kyle Sallinen gave the North Delta Pirates the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth as Harper came across home to score.

  • In the top of the fifth, Ryo Ikeda walked and Jared Goumans singled to put two on for the North Delta Pirates. Then Sammy Wong doubled on a fly ball to right and Ikeda scored, extending the lead to 5-3.

  • Strong pitching by lefty Liam Jones and errorless fielding by the North Delta Pirates the rest of the way sealed a 5-3, championship victory the rest of the way.

  • Jones pitched a full game victory for the North Delta Pirates. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking two.

  • Jake Theal started the game for Cloverdale. They gave up five hits and four runs over four innings, striking out five and walking now.

  • Lucas Stebbings and Harper were a force together in the North Delta lineup, as they each collected two hits while hitting back-to-back.

  • Harper, Wong, and Conway each drove in one run.

  • Martel provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Cloverdale with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.

  • Riley Walters, Cloverdale’s number nine hitter, led the team with two hits and three at-bats.

  • Cloverdale turned one double play in the game.

  • The North Delta Pirates 18U AAA squad are 2024 Sussex All-Star Tournament Champions - a tournament that featured AAA, College Prep and PBL teams.

  • The North Delta Pirates travel to Vancouver Island for four league games versus the North Island Cubs and Cowichan Valley on July 6th and 7th.
