North Delta Pirates Triumph Over Prince George Knights in Tournament Game that Counts Against League Standings

The North Delta Pirates topped the Prince George Knights 7-4 on Saturday afternoon in their third game of the Sussex All-Star Tournament in Kamloops. With the victory, North Delta upped it’s tournament record to 2-1 a gave themselves a chance to advance to the tournament semi-final if they achieve a good result in their next game Sunday morning. The game versus Prince George also counted towards league standings.

  • Prince George got on the board in the first inning after Levi Knezevic singled, scoring one run.

  • They added to their lead in the second inning after Jacob McLean singled and the score was 2-0 Prince George.

  • But then, the North Delta Pirates flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring six runs on four hits to take a 6-2 lead. The biggest blow of the inning was a triple by Ryo Ikeda that drove in two.

  • In an inning where Noah Saunders made a long distance running catch from centre field to record a key out, Prince George mounted a come-back, scoring two runs to close the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the third.

  • But with strong North Delta pitching, that was as close as they came and North Delta closed out the game with a 7-4 victory.

  • Noah Grant pitched three innings in relief for the North Delta Pirates. The reliever surrendered three hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking two. He earned the win for North Delta.

  • Ikeda stepped on the hill first for the Pirates. They gave up seven hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking none.

  • Brendan Grant entered the game in the sixth inning with runners on third and second with two outs. The right handed batter got the next hitter to ground out, ending the inning and the scoring threat. He went on to close the game in the seventh and earn the save.

  • Payton Harper and Sammy Wong were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the North Delta Pirates.

  • Ikeda led the team with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day.

  • The Prince George Knights collected 10 hits in the game.

  • Peyton Mackay led the team with two RBIs. The center fielder went 2-for-2 on the day and also stole three bases.

  • Knezevic led Prince George with three hits in four at bats and McLean collected two hits four at bats.

  • The North Delta Pirates next game is Sunday morning in Kamloops against the Kamloops RiverDogs in another game that will double as a tournament / league game.
