North Delta Pirates Robbed by Delta Blue Jays; Lose 4-3 in an Inning-Shortened Game
Even though the North Delta Pirates collected four hits to the Delta Blue Jay’s three, they still fell 4-3 on Saturday morning in a curiously-officiated game that resulted in North Delta Pirates players and staff being ejected for gently disagreeing with a couple of calls. In a game that the Delta Blue Jays seemed to have in hand with a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth, North Delta never quit and found themselves down by just one with runners at third and second in the bottom of the sixth but the Delta Blue Jays tallied their third out of the sixth inning and the umpires called the game on account of time.
Please see a recap of the game below:
The Delta Blue Jays were the first to get on the board in the third when Noah Farnden hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
The game proceeded without another run scored until the top of the sixth when two sacrifice flies and a single, scored three runs and Delta led 4-0.
North Delta battled back in the bottom of the sixth when Payton Harper singled, Tomas Mancini walked, and Brendan Grant was hit by pitch, loading the bases. Delta’s pitcher walked two more before being replaced and North Delta had cut the lead in half to 4-2.
With one out Riku Sakuta singled and Jared Goumans scored, cutting the lead to 4-3.
A North Delta strike out brought the game down to the last out of the sixth inning and the game ended 4-3.
Nathan Strang pitched three innings in relief for the North Delta Pirates. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and three runs while striking out one and walking four.
Liam Jones began the game for the North Delta Pirates. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one.
T. Mancini also pitched for North Delta in relief.
Brodie Tse stepped on the hill first for the Delta Blue Jays. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking two.
Harper, Sammy Wong, Sakuta, and Ryo Ikeda each collected one hit for the North Delta Pirates. Wong, Goumans, and Sakuta each drove in one run.
Ivan Simbulan, Kotara Kawai, and Jake Parnell each collected one hit for the Delta Blue Jays. Jack Redpath, Nathan Reynolds, Farnden, and Simbulan each drove in one run.
The North Delta Pirates play the Prince George Knights in Kamloops later Saturday evening.
