North Delta Pirates Defeat Penticton Tigers in Pitcher’s Duel

In the first game of the 2024 Sussex All Star tournament in Kamloops, the North Delta Pirates defeated the Penticton Tigers 3-2, as both teams were strong on the bump on Friday.

Please see a recap of the game below:

  • A single by Ronan Castelone on an 0-2 count put Penticton on the board first in the top of the third, 1-0.

  • It remained that way until the bottom of the sixth when Tyler Conway grounded out, Ryo Ikeda singled, and Penticton committed an error, each scoring one run. After six the score was North Delta 3, Penticton 1.

  • In the top of the seventh Penticton battled back with one run on a sacrifice fly by K. Collins but Noah Grant struck out the final batter and North Delta emerged victorious, 3-2.

  • Liam Jones started the game for North Delta and recorded 10 outs. The lefty surrendered four hits on on run over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one.

  • Brendan Grant tossed two and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball for the North Delta Pirates in relief and recorded the win.

  • N. Grant collected the save, closing out the game in the seventh inning.

  • Carson Burnett took the loss for the Penticton Tigers. The right-handed pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out eight and walking one.

  • Payton Harper, Riku Sakuta, and Ikeda each collected one hit for the North Delta Pirates.

  • Penticton collected 10 hits in the game. Wyatt Moore went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Kaden Collins and Castelone each drove in one run for Penticton. Tylers Messing and Linden Moore each collected multiple hits for Penticton.

  • Next up for the North Delta Pirates are two games on Saturday at McArthur Island Park in Kelowna: the first, a tilt of particular interest to Delta fans at 10:30 versus hometown comrads Delta Blue Jays Jr. PBL, and the second, a tournament/league game at 6:00pm versus the Prince George Knights.
