North Delta Pirates Make a Run Against Richmond City Chuckers but Fall Short in Season Opener, 8-7

NORTH DELTA, BC — April 6, 2024

The North Delta Pirates effort to come back from down four runs in the fifth inning came up just short, as they fell 8-7 to the Richmond City Chuckers on Saturday.

  • The North Delta Pirates were the first to get on the board in the first inning with Jared Goumans grounded out, scoring a run.

  • Richmond took the lead in the top of the second inning after Jorge Becerra doubled, Pierce Lambert walked, and Thomas Jakubec singled, each scoring one run.

  • A single by Becerra extended Richmond’s lead to 4-1 in the top of the third inning.

  • The North Delta Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a hit by pitch, a walk by Sammy Wong, and a single by Lucas Stebbings.

  • Richmond took the lead, 8-5, in the top of the seventh thanks to singles by Liam Stevenson and Becerra.

  • A late push by the North Delta Pirates closed the gap to 8-7 later in the seventh inning but a full comeback was not to be.

  • Liam Jones pitched four innings in relief for the North Delta Pirates. The lefty gave up four hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking one, taking the loss.

  • Goumans led things off on the bump for the North Delta Pirates. The righty allowed seven hits and four runs over three innings, striking out two and walking three.

  • Stebbings drove the middle of the lineup, leading the North Delta Pirates with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.

  • Goumans led the North Delta Pirates with two hits in three at bats.

  • Riku Sakuta paced the North Delta Pirates with two walks.

  • Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.

  • Tyler Liaw led things offer on the bump for the Richmond City Chuckers. They gave up two hits and five runs (zero earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking three.

  • Richmond amassed 11 hits in the game.

  • Becerra drove the middle of the lineup, leading Richmond with four RBIs. The infielder went 3-for-4 on the day.

  • Stevenson collected two hits for Richmond in four at bats.

  • Tyler Carros stole two bases.

  • Richmond turned one double play in the gam.

  • The North Delta Pirates play at home at Mackie Field on Sunday at 1pm in a second straight game against the Richmond City Chuckers in their next game.
