North Delta Pirates Hold Onto Victory As Cloverdale Almost Erase 5-Run Deficit; Finish Pre-Season with 4 Wins, 0 Losses

The North Delta Pirates held on Sunday to edge out rival Cloverdale 5-3 in nine innings and close out a successful pre-season with four wins and zero losses.

  • The North Delta Pirates got on the board first in the fourth inning when Tyler Bernabe scored on a pop fly hit by Payton Harper that was mis-fielded.

  • The North Delta Pirates added three more runs to lead 4-0 at the bottom of the sixth inning when Harper drove in Lucas Stebbings and Kyle Sallinen on a fly ball to center field.

  • Trailing 5-0 at the beginning of the ninth inning, Cloverdale closed the gap to just two runs by scoring on a pop out, a hit by pitch, and a ground out but the rally fell short as the North Delta Pirates held onto the victory, defeating Cloverdale 5-3 in their last pre-season game ahead of the official season opener on April 6th.

  • Liam Jones stepped on the bump first for the North Delta Pirates. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out four, walking two, and ultimately earning the win.

  • Best began the game for Cloverdale and allowed one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking three.

  • Sallinen threw three innings of scoreless ball for the North Delta Pirates in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits, striking out two and walking none.

  • Harper went 2-for-5 at the plate as the right-handed hitter led the team with two runs batted in.

  • Ryo Ikeda led the North Delta Pirates with four walks.

  • Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 11 walks for the game.

  • Ikeda also stole two bases.

  • J. Ferguson and Morris each collected two hits for Cloverdale.

  • L. Dance led Cloverdale with one run batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day.

  • C. Plank paced Cloverdale with three walks.

  • Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game.

  • Ferguson stole two bases.

  • Cloverdale turned two double plays in the game.

  • The North Delta Pirates will next play their season home opener at Mackie Park against Richmond City on April 6th at noon, followed by a second game also against Richmond City on April 7th again at Mackie Park but at 1pm.
