North Delta Pirates Fall After Strong Showing by Vancouver Mounties; End Winning Streak at 10

The North Delta Pirates had trouble keeping up with the Vancouver Mounties in the second half of a double header on Saturday, dropping their first game in eleven with a 9-3 loss. Three, 3-run innings in the third, sixth and seventh proved to be North Delta’s undoing as their bats couldn’t keep up with the plethora of runs scored by Vancouver.

Please see a recap of the game below:

  • The North Delta Pirates took the early lead 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning when Lucas Stebbings reached first base on a dropped third strike and Noah Saunders came in to score.

  • Vancouver came storming back in the top of the third, scoring three runs on a single and a sacrifice.

  • They further added to their lead in the top of the sixth with an additional three runs on single that scored one run and a double that scored two.

  • For a moment the North Delta Pirates looked poised to make a comeback when, in the bottom of the sixth they loaded the bases. Noah Saunders drew a walk, scoring one. But it wasn’t to be as with one out and the bases loaded, North Delta players popped out to right field and then struck out and the inning ended harmlessly.

  • Vancouver went on to add three more runs in the top of the seventh, scoring on a passed ball, a single, and a ground ball.

  • Praise Ward-Theiss earned the win for Vancouver. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four.

  • Liam Jones took the loos for North Delta. The southpaw went six innings, surrendering six runs on eleven hits, striking out six and walking three.

  • Saunders went 1-for-2 at the plate as the right-handed hitter led the team with one run batted in.

  • Ryo Ikdea led the North Delta Pirates with two hits in four at bats.

  • Vancouver tallied 15 hits in the game.

  • Richardson and Evan Duckham each collected three hits.

  • Hansen, Kyle Symons, and Lucas Poulsen each drove in two runs for Vancouver.

  • The North Delta Pirates are next slated to play at home on Sunday against the South Fraser Giants in the first of three straight games against the Surrey foe.
