North Delta Pirates Earn Victory Over the Cowichan Valley Mustangs in Sayonara Game for Riku Sakuta
Jared Goumans drove in four runs and went 3-for-3 at the plate (a double and two singles) to lead the North Delta Pirates past the Cowichan Valley Mustangs in the second game of a double header at Evans Park on Sunday. Goumans singled in the first and second, and doubled in the fourth in a 12-4 victory. Meanwhile, Riku Sakuta, who had taken a ball clean out of the park in a game earlier in the day, contributed offensively with a three singles, two RBIs, and as a relief pitcher in the last of his games with the North Delta Pirates until the end of the Provincials.

The North Delta Pirates got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error, a Sakuta single, and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Sallinen each scored one run.
Goumans singled in the second, scoring Carson Stoochnoff and Tyler Bernabe, and North Delta led 5-0 after two.
The North Delta Pirates added five more runs in the top of the fourth as Goumans added two more RBI and Sakuta contributed with one of his own.
Cowichan scored a run in the fourth, another in the fifth, and two in the sixth.
Nathan Strang stepped on the bump first and earned the win for North Delta. The righty surrendered two hits and one run over four innings, striking out seven and walking nine.
Matthew Hutchison started the game for the Cowichan Valley Mustangs. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and 10 runs over four innings, striking out three and walking five.
Goumans and Sakuta each appeared in relief for North Delta and the fans were treated to one inning that featured Tokyo connection Sakuta as pitcher and Ryo Ikeda moonlighting as catcher.
The North Delta Pirates tallied 11 hits in the game.
Stoochnoff stole three bases and scored three runs.
Bernabe got on base five times in five plate appearances and scored four runs.
Seth Williams went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two of Cowichan’s four runs.
Cowichan had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 14 walks in the game.
The North Delta Pirates will next play at home at Mackie Field on Wendesday against the Chilliwack Cougars.
