Five-Pitcher Effort Leads North Delta Pirates to 16-0 Pre-Season Shutout Victory Over Langley Township Blue Sox
The North Delta Pirates dominated the Township Blue Sox in a 16-0 shutout on Sunday at Mackie Park, with a stellar team pitching performance. Five pitchers combined for the shutout, including Noah Grant, Kesler Curtis, Liam Jones, Connor Wilson, and Dakota Simicak. Simicak sealed the victory with a double play to end the game.
The Pirates jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning on runs scored by Simicak, Tyler Conway, and Lucas Stebbings. The team extended their lead in the second inning after the Blue Sox committed an error, Conway walked, and Wilson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, extending the Pirates lead to 6-0 after two innings.
Five North Delta pitchers collectively surrendered no runs. They had 21 strikeouts in the game with just one walk and one hit batter. Their collective opponent batting average was 0.069. Grant, who started the game, was credited with the win. Curtis, Jones, Wilson, and Simicak each threw shutout innings in relief for the Pirates.
On the other side, the Township Blue Sox pitchers spent the day searching for their stride, allowing 10 hits and 16 runs over a total of seven and a third innings, walking 17 batters and surrendering a collective opponent batting average of 0.313.
At the plate, the North Delta Pirates accumulated 10 hits and were patient, drawing 17 walks. Cole James led the offense with three RBIs, going 1-for-3, while Grant paced the team with three hits in four at-bats. The Pirates’ lineup demonstrated its depth, with multiple players drawing multiple walks. Seven players recorded three or more quality at bats. The Pirates also turned one double play during the game.
The North Delta Pirates will face off in their second pre-season tilt against the Cloverdale Rangers on Saturday, March 22nd at noon at Mackie Field in North Delta.
