North Delta Pirates Rally, Defeat Richmond City Chuckers in Pre-Season Action
NORTH DELTA, BC — March 16, 2024
Despite trailing by as many as four runs, the North Delta Pirates rallied to defeat the Richmond City Chuckers 10-7 in a preseason tilt on Saturday. Please see a recap of the game below:
Richmond City opened the scoring starting the game with an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to two errors committed by the North Delta Pirates.
In the bottom of the first inning the North Delta Pirates clawed ahead after Lucas Stebbings singled, Kyle Sallinen doubled, and Brendan Grant singled, each subsequently scoring one run.
Richmond City recaptured the lead, 4-3 in the top of the second with Murphy Ohara and Ben Rempel each scoring one run.
The Chuckers added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Jerome St. Louis grounded out, scoring two runs, and Jorge drew a walk, scoring another.
Noah Grant singled, which helped the North Delta Pirates tie the game at seven in the bottom of the fourth.
The North Delta Pirates then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Jared Goumans hit a sacrifice fly, Sammy Wong walked, and Sallinen got on base, each subsequently scoring a run.
N. Grant earned the win in relief for the North Delta Pirates. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two. Sallinen pitched three solid innings in relief giving up zero hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking one.
B. Grant started on the mound for the North Delta Pirates. The righty surrendered one hit and four runs (zero earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two. Goumans collected the save.
The North Delta Pirates amassed 12 hits in the game. Sallinen, Tyler Bernabe, and N. Grant each collected two hits. Sallinen, Goumans, B. Grant, N. Grant, Stebbings, and Wong each drove in one run. B. Grant stole two bases.
The North Delta Pirates showed patience at the plate, piling up six walks in the game. They also turned two double plays.
Liam Stevenson and Des each collected one hit for Richmond City. Ohara, St. Louis, and Tyler Carros each drove in one run. Ohara paced Richmond City with three walks while Stevenson stole two bases.
