Experience beyond measure and a heart for the community …
Alex McKay's dedication to the sport of baseball spans more than five decades, beginning in 1969 when he first started coaching in Vancouver. For seven years, he guided teams in the Babe Ruth and Connie Mack leagues, culminating in a remarkable achievement when his Connie Mack team, made up of 17- and 18-year-olds, represented Canada in the prestigious 1970 Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, New Mexico. This experience marked a significant milestone in his coaching career and solidified his passion for developing young athletes in the game of baseball.
In 1977, Alex and his wife Wendy moved to North Delta, where Alex's impact on the local baseball community grew even further. Over the years, he has coached and worked with players at every level, from the grassroots to elite teams. His legacy is proudly displayed at Westview Park, where the 2007 Bantam AAA Western Canadian Championship banner hangs, featuring Alex's name as a key contributor to the team's success. His commitment to the development of North Delta's baseball talent has made him an iconic figure in the region, earning him a place in the hearts of many players and families.
Beyond his coaching accomplishments, Alex's influence extended into the business side of baseball. In 1982, he founded Prostock Athletics in Burnaby, which quickly became the premier baseball supplier in British Columbia. Known as one of the most respected figures in the province’s baseball community, Alex's impact has been felt at every level of the game. His unwavering service to both North Delta and the broader baseball community in British Columbia is truly commendable. We celebrate Alex McKay for his outstanding contributions to baseball and his lasting legacy as a coach, mentor, and community leader and are so appreciative of his place as a coach of the 2025 North Delta Pirates.
